This band from Toulon (France) has been quite known in the underground, and especially because of their sulphurous reputation. Still, I had never been able to put my hands on their precedent and only album 'Melancholia', and I expected them to play pure true black metal. But no, Blessed In Sin is not 'true', and the word 'black' doesn't really seem adapted here. Ok, the lyrics are deep into Satanism, they have make-up and nick names, and there is a strictly black metal voice, but Blessed In Sin is more into occult metal than black metal. In brief, that's the perfect kind of music for a black mass. Th keyboards are omnipresent here and very melodic, strengthening mid-tempo tracks, in a style close the best tracks that the other French band Lord had made. Only the beginning of the track 'Under The Rules Of The Golden Calf' is really violent, but the most interesting tracks are the more melodic ones, with their longs clear vocals passages, such as 'Henochiel Chapitre Dernier, Revelations' or the beautiful 'Odes Obscures A La Dame Noire Part II'. In addition to that, the sound is very decent, and that gives all in all a good album, interesting and different. Still, you might not like the style. But that's another problem…
